Buffalo Creek Trails Workday #5
Our 2016 trail build/repair workdays were phenomenal, with volunteers really ramping up their efforts to help keep the Buffalo Creek trail system in Pike National Forest one of the best in Colorado! Because of your hard work, we completed the Little Scraggy Trail and repaired/re-aligned several miles of other trails. We’ll be back at it again in 2017, completing much-needed repairs and critical trail re-alignments on Buck Gulch, Strawberry Jack, Little Scraggy, the Colorado Trail and many of the other 21 trails that comprise the Buffalo Creek system.
In order to optimize the tools, crew leaders, and maximize the amount of work we complete during each work party, we need more volunteers in each work party. COMBA provides the tools and the guidance, you provide the effort. No experience is necessary; if you can use a shovel, you can be a valuable volunteer.
For each work day, we will meet at 9 am for a quick mission briefing and tools talk. COMBA provides coffee, juice, and a light breakfast with bagels or muffins. We then split into groups of 6-10, each lead by an experienced COMBA trail crew leader, before heading up the trail at 9:30 to begin the day's work. We normally break for lunch around noon for 30 minutes then continue working until approximately 3 pm at which point we head back to the staging area for a sponsored cookout of brats & burgers (including vegetarian burgers) with beverages. Finally, we offer an optional ride for those with enough energy left. For the weekend work parties, feel free to come for a day or spend the weekend and camp with us
The staging area for this workparty is at the Miller Gulch trailhead at FS (Forest Service) road 554, google map: https://goo.gl/maps/ctdtmRDgb3m Camping is available. To get there from Denver, take 285 to the town of Bailey, then left on Wellington Lake Rd and look for the COMBA event signs (see map for details). Please make sure to dress in sturdy work clothes including boots, long pants (recommended), work gloves, hat, and sunglasses. Remember to bring water, your own lunch, sunscreen, and a pack to carry them in. Please register (everyone, including crew leaders) so we can plan accordingly and contact you if things should change.
